Mike is an expert with significant experience and qualifications in the field of intellectual property law and litigation.
Mike’s undergraduate degree was in Economics and International Development at the University of Bath, but began practice in 2015 and quickly became a sought-after attorney, gaining his Chartered Trade Mark Attorney status in 2019. He is also certified as an IP litigator and is a member of the Chartered Institute of Trade Mark Attorneys. In 2016, Mike gained the highest mark achieved by a CITMA member in his Postgraduate Certificate in Intellectual Property at Bournemouth University.

Having lectured in UK trade mark filing for the CITMA Paralegal course, published in the World Intellectual Property Review, and being a speaker at the CITMA Autumn Conference on EU Trade Mark case law in 2020, Mike is passionate about sharing his knowledge with others. Mike has successfully represented clients at the High Court, UKIPO, and EUIPO, and is well-versed in providing legal advice across a range of sectors, including FMCGs, the food & beverage sector, and the international children’s publishing and toy sectors.

James joined Tennant IP in 2019 after graduating with a second-class upper division honours degree in Law (LLB) from Cardiff University. His commitment to continuous learning was further demonstrated when he obtained a Postgraduate Certificate in Intellectual Property from Bournemouth University in 2021. Since joining the firm, James has quickly established himself as a valuable team member, providing clients with high-quality advice on a wide range of IP matters.

Throughout his time at Tennant IP, James has been instrumental in handling complex trade mark cases, including clearance searching, drafting applications, responding to objections, and managing oppositions. He has successfully communicated intricate legal concepts clearly and effectively, working with large household names such as Rightmove and Tiny Rebel, as well as smaller businesses.

Outside of work, James enjoys playing football and is an avid supporter of Liverpool FC. He regularly participates in five-a-side matches and has a passion for film and cinema.

After a successful career as a Trade Mark Attorney, Bill Tennant founded Tennant IP in 2009. Bill has an extensive background in intellectual property, including serving as a Trade Mark Hearing Officer at the UKIPO.

Throughout his successful career, Bill has handled numerous high-profile cases that have set precedents in modern UK and EU trade mark law. In 2019, after 30 years in the industry, he stepped back from his role at Tennant IP and now enjoys being free to dedicate time towards his hobbies of gardening and bird watching.
